What we do
NHS Wakefield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) plans and pays for local health services in the Wakefield district.
The CCG is made up of 38 GP practices and covers a population of over 360,000 patients in the Wakefield area.
Led by GPs and nurses, we work together with patients and GP practices in your area to ensure the right NHS services are in place to support your health and wellbeing. We call this commissioning.
Our population includes some of the most deprived neighbourhoods in the UK. Twelve out of the 21 wards in our area are in the UK’s 25% most deprived and life expectancy is below the national average.
There are also above average levels of teenage pregnancy, obesity and smoking-related illnesses such as heart disease, stroke and cancer.
Our aim is to transform healthcare for patients in Wakefield and beyond to reduce health inequalities in the district.
